Asus, through the production company Heaven Media, came to us with the brief of a lifetime: create four individual videos each based on a theme, where we would have almost complete creative freedom to make what we wanted. All they ask is that we work with a famous and talented musician of their choice. How could we say no?
Their goal was to engage their audience with a competition and give-away, by getting them to vote for their favourite team of creators. Voters also had a chance to be included as an animated character in the the final 2 videos, being revealed as the mysterious "hooded figure". We were paired with Herman Li, the guitarist of DragonForce, while the other team was made up of Rafael Varona and T-Pain.

The challenge
Asus gave us 4 themes to work with: Fantasy, Modern Action, Cyberpunk, and Horror Apocalypse. They also asked us to work within an 8-bit retro style, and wanted us to work the raffel and the musician into the videos as well. Taking these things into consideration, we got to work writing a story.

Solutuion
We wanted there to be a theme throughout all 4 videos that tied them together, so we developed a story that could take place in multiple settings, following a main character being called upon to save the world, and come to the aid of Herman Li. Each video was designed to look like a separate level in a video game, with the climax coming in the last video with an epic boss battle.

The four videos were streamed as ads on Facebook, Instagram, and Youtube, and drove major engagement with fans through the voting mechanic of the contest. On youtube alone they were viewed over one million times. A mini-documentary following the making of the videos was also created.
